PowerBus IC

Protocol Stack

PowerBusTM integrated circuits are protocol chips designed to meet the requirements of control networks in residential, commercial, utility, industrial, and transportation markets. They embed the entire PowerBus protocol stack, from physical to application layers, in flash memory. Physical layers for the AC power line, DC power line and twisted pair media are available. The U-530 serie of PowerBus ICs contains specialized network management and configuration functions, while the U-540 serie is optimized for device control and includes drivers for various peripherals.

U-5xx Series IC

U-511These ICs are a powerful single-chip solution for developing a complete PowerBus device. Each IC is based on a RISC 8051 microcontroller (8x faster than a standard 8051) operating at 30 MHz from –40°C to 85°C. They contain 64 KB of flash memory, 6 KB of RAM, a versatile PHY supporting multiple media (AC, DC, and TP), and are available in 48 and 80-pin LQFP Packages. The PowerBus protocol stack is embedded in the flash memory, and can be upgraded via UART, SPI, or directly over the power line. Lots of room is available in flash memory for adding manufacturer applications. Every chip has a unique, worldwide MAC (Medium Access Control) address useful for addressing PowerBus nodes over the Internet, as well as several unique IDs.
