Domosys announced today that it has developed a complete OSGi bundle supporting its PowerBus technology. This Java-based software package is used to design, install, operate, and maintain PowerBus power line control networks connected to OSGi-enabled service gateways. The bundle includes asynchronous, synchronous, and installation communications packages, sample device service bundles, a power line firmware upgrade utility, and complete documentation.
"Adding automation and control networking capabilities to an OSGi installation has never been easier", explained Evan Price, president of Domosys. "The combination of our OSGi bundle with a PowerBus-enabled thermostat and load control modules can already add significant functionality to an OSGi solution. Upcoming PowerBus products such as switches, dimmers, outlets, motion sensors, and I/O modules will make this package even more attractive for utilities, telcos, cable operators and other service gateway operators."
Host platforms include any hardware that can run an OSGi-certified Framework (10 are already available, with more on the way), and that includes a serial port able to communicate with a PowerGate power line modem. Examples include set top boxes, residential gateways, DSL and cable modems, and PCs. An OSGi gateway integrating PowerBus technology will also be released later this year.
The PowerBus OSGi bundle license, available now, is free for evaluation or educational purposes, and must be purchased for commercial deployment.
The Open Services Gateway Initiative (OSGi), established in 1999, is an independent, non-profit corporation. OSGi provides the only vendor-neutral, multiple-sourced specification in the industry to deliver and manage an application or service through a network that runs locally on a remote device. OSGi also works to proliferate these open specifications through the sponsorship of technology, market, and user education programs. OSGi is a global, cross-industry consortium. Membership is open to any interested party, including Internet Service Providers, Network Operators, Original Equipment Manufacturers, Independent Software Vendors, end users, academic institutions, government agencies, and non-profit organizations.
