Domosys Corporation Introduces the Power Line Area Network (PLAN mc) at DistribuTECH 2000

Miami Beach, Florida - March 1, 2000 - Domosys Corporation, a leading supplier of power line communication technology for control networks, introduced today the Power Line Area Network (PLAN) at DistribuTECH 2000 in Miami, Florida. With this system, utilities and service providers can reach every wall outlet and every electrical appliance in their customers' homes to deliver value-added services.

The benefits of the Domosys PLAN system for utility and other service providers are:

As mentioned above, the PLAN can easily interface with the Internet using existing Wide Area Networks (WANs) and dedicated AMR networks. Moreover, its installation cost is low because it uses existing electrical wires as the Local Area Network (LAN).

"Over the past years, Domosys has broadened its expertise to providing leading LAN solutions for the utility market", said Michel Viau, Vice-President Sales and Marketing of Domosys Corporation. "Recently, Domosys has developed the PLAN to help utilities retain their customers by offering them the capabilities to deliver value-added services to every electrical outlet in the home. This turnkey solution is a simple and low-cost add-on package extension to utilities' existing WAN or AMR networks."

The PLAN integrates four elements: a gateway, an electronic meter, a display, and a DomoMeter module. The residential gateway is the link between the WAN and the PLAN. The solid-state residential meter allows utilities to remotely collect power consumption data. In the PLAN, the meter's data are made available to the utility and to the customers, allowing a much greater exchange of information between the parties. It is connected to the gateway over the PLAN. The display is the in-premise customer interface. Information such as electrical consumption of an individual appliance for a period of time, total daily electrical consumption, and community messaging can be viewed from the display. The display's menus are downloaded from the gateway. Finally, a key part of this system is the DomoMeter module. This module allows for the sub-metering and load shedding of any 120 or 240 VAC appliance. It reacts to Time-Of-Use pricing signals sent over the networks and monitors/reports seven variables relative to electricity consumption and power quality. The four devices each have an embedded power line communication transceivers.
