DomesticSoft releases the PowerBus™ plug-in for its OPC2net product

Enables networking between hardware embedding the Domosys PowerBus technology and any OPC compatible software

Atlanta, GA – DomesticSoft, Inc. Announced today the commercial release of a software plug-in module for its OPC2net product, which enables PowerBus hardware to communicate with any OPC compatible software. It supports both peer-to-peer and master/slave topologies of PowerBus technology version 2.0.

This new plug-in module enables all Windows-based applications to access and control PowerBus enabled devices, such as actuators, meters, and sensors, either locally or remotely via the Internet or a dial-up modem. This is particularly interesting as a broad offering of PowerBus end-user products and systems, such as switches, thermostats, gateways, appliance modules, AMR systems and commercial systems is currently available.

This new release allows users and system integrators to easily create powerful graphical user interfaces or control networking applications for PowerBus enabled systems. Furthermore, any system embedding PowerBus technology can easily be integrated into existing factory and building OPC compatible control systems.

"This is a further exciting step in the development of PowerBus to OPC software by DomesticSoft," said Evan Price, President of Domosys. "It emphasizes our commitment to work with non-proprietary network management solutions, such as the DomesticSoft OPC2net software, to give our customers easy-to-implement and competitive choices when creating advanced control systems."

"We have been working with PowerBus since 2001 and, as a control networking technology, we find it to be both advanced and easy to implement" said Throstur Jonsson, President of DomesticSoft. "The market demand for our combined solutions lead naturally us to extend our product line to this plug-in module".

The OPC2net software including the PowerBus plug-in module is available today from DomesticSoft. More information on how OPC Server Solutions are implemented can be found on the DomesticSoft web site www.domesticsoft.com and www.opcfoundation.org.

About OPC

The OPC Specification is a non-proprietary technical specification that defines a set of standard interfaces2 based upon Microsoft's OLE/COM technology. The application of the OPC standard interface makes interoperability possible between automation/control applications, field systems/devices and business/office applications. Traditionally, each software or application developer was required to write a custom interface, or server/driver, to exchange data with hardware field devices. OPC eliminates this requirement by defining a common, high performance interface that permits this work to be done once, and then easily reused by HMI, SCADA, Control and custom applications.
